In a previous post (Farmland Prices and Populism) we spoke about some of the controversy surrounding foreign ownership of US Farmland. In a recent report by the USDA Economic Research Service there is an interesting chart detailing the ‘extent of the problem’. In the last 10 years the acres of foreign held Cropland has about doubled…though the scale of the holdings are still fairly marginal considering there are an estimated 340 million acres devoted to Cropland in the US.
